Directions from Richmond Airport (RIC):
Approximately 60 miles.Take I-95 South or 295 South and pick up Rt.10 east out of Hopewell, just south of Richmond. You will stay on Rt. 10 all the way, as we are located on Rt. 10. When you get to Surry, Rt. 10 & 31 will merge at a stop sign. Make a left and head for Surry. There will be a stoplight at the Surry Court House. Take a right at the light. This will put you back on Rt. 10 east (Colonial Trail East). Go about 7 miles to Bacons Castle. There is a small convenience store at the Bacons Castle intersection of Rt. 617 (White Marsh Rd.) & Rt. 10 (Colonial Trail East), which means you are very close. Keep heading east on Rt. 10 for about 1/2 mile. At the first bend in the road you will see a CAMO colored “Pepper Popper” steel target on the right side of the road beside our mail box (7366 Colonial Trail East). The dirt road is about 1/2 mile long and bumpy. Head for the white building (Custom Shop) behind the tan mobile home (Office & class room). Park in the shade under the tall pine trees on the left across from the old barn.

Directions from Norfolk Airport (ORF): Approximately 45 miles. Take I-64 west towards Hampton. Pickup Rt. 258 (Mercury Blvd.) heading south off of I-64 in Hampton. Go across the James River Bridge and take a right at the light at Rt. 32 & 258. Keep going until you reach the next light at Benns Church. Turn right onto Rt. 10 and head towards Smithfield (staying on Rt. 10 bypass around Smithfield). At the intersection of Rt. 258 & 10 there is a commuter parking lot. Stay on Rt. 10 (Colonial Trail East) for about (10) miles until you reach the intersection of Hog Island Road and Mt. Ray. Stay on Rt. 10, as we are 1/4 mile past this intersection on the left. The first driveway on the left is the Bacons Castle Hunt Club. The second driveway on the left is our driveway. At the first bend in the road you will see an O.D. Green colored “Pepper Popper” steel target on the left side of the road behind our mail box (7366 Colonial Trail East). Our dirt road is about 1/2 mile long and bumpy. Head for the white building (our Custom Shop) that is directly behind the tan mobile home (our office & class room). Park in the shade under the tall pine trees on the left across from the old barn.

Directions from Williamsburg-Newport News International Airport (PHF): Approximately 33 miles. Take I-64 East towards Hampton. Food/Lodging

Bacons Castle Virginia (where our headquarters is currently located) is 12 miles from Smithfield; 7 miles from downtown Surry (with one blinking light) and historic Williamsburg is just 15 miles away. There is a free, enjoyable, 20 minute ferry ride across the James River (it runs about every ½ hour).

In Smithfield: There’s always the Econo Lodge 757-357-9057…

Then there is the Church Street Inn, a nice, clean modern bed & breakfast 757-357-3176…

And then there’s a nice marina & hotel called the Smithfield Station. It’s a bit pricey, but if that’s not an issue call 757-357-7700. GREAT BRUNCH on Sunday morning. Ask for the Corporate discount for the Tactical Shooting Academy…

The Smithfield Inn is a very quaint, historic bed & breakfast (great eclectic food & old time tavern) just down the street from the bakery and ice cream parlor at 757-357-1752…

For food, I prefer the Battery Park Bar & Grille (really great food with a live bartender nightly). It’s a very quaint little place that used to be an old dairy barn (but it don’t smell too bad since they fixed it up). Neat little poolroom, a very popular hangout for locals, you won’t be disappointed. 757-357-1747.

For Italian food Anna’s Italian restaurant has the best pizza and lasagna in town. The food can be taken-out or there is plenty of seating in the building. Beer and wine on premises. 757-357-4676

The #1 Chinese restaurant is a great little, no-nonsense Chinese food place with NO MSG & NO BEER (but otherwise, it’s a very clean and really good place to eat). 757-357-9448.

I like the food at the Smithfield Inn very much, and at the Battery Park Grille as well. There are also all the usual, regular fast food places all around Smithfield to eat, too.

Williamsburg has too many places to list. Look up Williamsburg on the Internet and see what’s cooking, and for deals on motels…

Newport News has a Motel 8 ( and many others) just over the James River Bridge (25 miles from the range)…
