We have IPDA and IPSC now, do we REALLY need another shooting sport? If so why? And why TSA?

Uh, for starters, it's IDPA, Frank, not IPDA. ;) IDPA started out pretty good, but some of the rules just don't make sense. IPSC has taken the heads off the target (they look like sea turtles  ).

TSA has a lot of good things going for it. It's the right thing to do. Just wish I didn't have to work weekends... :(

What I like about TSA:

You can shoot your REAL carry gun and actually be competitive with it.

"We" dont have IPSC here in the US it it USPSA and has different rules. "we" also rarely if ever use the headless turtle targets. The Turtle targets are not a PC issue it is actually a legal issue. In many places human shape targets are illegal. or against range rules. Nothing wrong with more gun games, probably dont "need" any of them but they are fun to play. I havent got far into TSA it has gotten away from some of the IDPA stupidity but it has also kept some. TSA also has some of it's own. Like required on the clock Tac/Rwr. which I will never do in a fight nor will I ever do in a match. If I take a magazine out of my gun it's because I am done with it. You also are not going to be competitive with your "real" carry gun. Either you dont carry regularly, arnt telling the truth about what you carry, or are getting smoked by shooters of equal talent. There is still enough room in the rules to have a pretty tricked out smooth cycling barely make weight pistol and holster which will give a pretty good advantage over actual concealed carry gear. DR geared the rules and the match procedures to favor the gun he prefers. A double stack medium weight/ sized 9mm.

BULLSHIT, Joe...

I have never even SHOT a TSA match... SO, why would I gear the match rules that way???

Dave Sevigny and I BOTH agree that TSA will allow you to WIN with ANY gun you shoot (IF YOU GOT THE GOODS!!)...

Dave's OVERALL SCORE/TIMES at the TSA "Street Gun Nationals" with BOTH a G19 and G21SF would have been NEARLY IDENTICAL "IF" he hadn't got a procedural shooting the G21SF...

He shot more accurately with the G19 (less recoil) and he dropped more points with the G21SF, but it all evened out in the end because of the TSA Major/Minor scoring. It rewards SPEED & ACCURACY as equals, and doesn't favor MAJOR over MINOR scoring or vice versa.

Dave says you can win with ANY gun you shoot (if you shoot it well, that is). And it doesn't matter if it's Major or Minor caliber, just shoot well!!

In TSA, you can do any kind of reload you want, when you want, just don't leave any PRECIOUS ammo behind on the ground (after all, most of us don't carry more than one or two extra mags on the street)...

On the Plate Rack Standards, you are required to perform a "Slide Lock Reload' on one string and a "Tac-Reload" on another ON THE CLOCK. And we don't care how you do your "Tac-Reload" either for that matter...

From my experience, the Tactical Shooting Association has a lot to offer those who shoot and compete. So why not support it? It's good having another defensive shooting sport out there. The TSA target is unique and the scoring zones are not forgiving. The gun divisions and minor/major scoring have been proven and there is parity so long as the course design is balanced. I'm sure the TSA Nationals in Surry, VA will be fun. I'm looking forward to the main event, side matches and associating with fellow competitors.

I in no way meant to imply that you were stacking the deck in your favor, What I meant was most people would probably be at there best in a TSA match shooting a medium sized medium weight doublestack 9mm which is also the gun you reccommend as a good all around defensive weapon. It offers some great middle ground. Kinda an ideal blend of weight to round count, power to contollability, concealability to shootability. Some of the weapon choices that would offer disadvantages on the street would give you the same disadvantages in a TSA match. Alot of very popular carry guns would get smoked at a TSA match by a shooter of equal talent with gear set up more for competition. (which ought to make people look at carry choices) I showed up with a Single stack 9+1 .40 on at least 2 stages I would have been better served by a doublestack as I needed extra reloads but it didnt matter to me I showed up to have fun get some trigger time with a safe queen I built myself. Next month I'm gonna be shooting an Alloy commander .45. But I have no doubt I would probably score higher with a steel Para P-13 (commander sized double stack .45)
