Just wanted to give my input on a couple of recent purchases--a new Ruger SR9 9mm and a ParaOrdnance Blackwatch Companion .45 ACP.

Ruger SR9

Excellent grip! This gun feels GREAT in the hand, has good (not great) sites, and carries and conceals well--about like you would expect from a LW Commander. Recoil is pleasantly mild, especially considering the narrow profile. The pistol has been 100% reliable for ME, but my mom and son both had feeding problems where the slide wouldn't close completely. You can say this is just "limp wristing," but frankly, since defensive shooting is so unpredictable, I'd like a gun that is more resistant to this problem. Other gripes? Trigger pull is very stiff right at the end (although, for a DA design, the reset is fairly short and Glock-like). Personally, I feel okay with this trigger on a gun I intend to carry with me for years on end. Then there is the drop safety recall (heavy sigh).

Para LDA Blackwatch Companion

Terrible grip panels from the factory--very sharp edges. NOW, with thin, light Alumagrips, the pistol feels wonderful! Sites are the best on any handgun I own. Trigger pull is also very good, although, I find I shoot a TDA a little better (like my pet Smith 645 or a Ruger 345). Still, very good, jerk resistant groups and 100% reliable with all kinds of ammo. Complaints? Besides the factory grips, this pig is HEAVY. You must wear pants that fit snuggly and use a good holster and belt (but y'all knew that already).

I like them both. For FIST-FIRE fans, I should add that the Ruger SR9 points very well. I can bring the gun up eyes closed and the sites will usually be RIGHT THERE! That's important.
