Anyone have use a 9mm M&P. I think I like one. Only problem is I've driven to four gun shop in NJ & PA - Not only do they not have one that I can shoot (one shop didn't even know what it was) but they don't have any that I can even hold. They insist that I pay in full and they would order it for me. How do people spend $700+ on something they have even held?

Brian,

Don't give up looking! S&W has come a long way with the M&Ps. I for one own a few and feel along with Glock enthusiast for the money it ranks high on reliability. For competition the 9mm and personal carry the 40. Recoil is less than its competition on todays market which makes range time more enjoyable. As for pricing, you should be able to find one priced around the $450 to $525 range. There are a number of web-sites you can check out with valuable information on the M&P. Good Luck!

I picked up a M&P 40 brand new for $439 delivered to a local dealer. then all I had to pay was $20 for transfer and b-ground check. I personally love it. It has more of a 1911 feel to it than your average polymer framed gun. I only thing I have noticed is it has a bit of a break-in period, but that just gives you more of any excuse to put hot lead down range. lol I've put around 200 rds though mine and so good so far.

The M&P has come on very strong in IDPA/USPSA. That pretty much tells you they work good and the ergos are right. My dealer usually has about twenty or so in stock, they all sell for around 500.00 or so. Lots of good sights and holsters coming out for it, not to mention that several gunsmiths are doing remarkable trigger work on them.

Wait for the 5" inch model or buy a used 4" one from all the people who jumped and now want to sell their 4" to buy a 5".

Anybody doing trigger jobs on them yet?

I know Bowie Tactical is doing them. I shot a M&P 45 I was considering buying, and the guns owner had a trigger job done by them. The trigger pull was extremely good.

Hey All,
For anyone that is interested, there is a 50,000 round M&P test being updated weekly on the pistol-training (http://pistol-training.com).com site. They have fired 29,999 as of Monday 4 AUG with very good results. An M&P could be added to the purchase program in my house.

Hey all,
I priced some 9MM M&Ps today at A&P Guns. They feel nice, but I have not been able to shoot one yet and will wait to purchase until then.

Standard $510 (Glock 17 comparable)
Standard w/Crimson trace laser grip $710
Long Slide $570 (Glock 35 comparable)
Long Slide Pro $590

II just thought you might like to know...

Hey,
The M&P test came to an abrupt stop when the test pistol cracked its slide at 62,333 rounds. Not a bad run for a first generation pistol. Let's hope S&W can refine and improve this pistol.

Happy Holidays,

It's more a refinement than a new gun. S&W learned alot from the Sigma disaster. The Sigma became the Edsel of polymer guns. Supposedly S&W is selling tons Sigmas by the truckload in some developing countries as they have got the bugs worked out of them. But the Sigma line is mud to most of the American market so S&W had to come up with a platform that had a different name and a different look even though it shared some of the features. With S&W's experience with the Sigma and the Walther P99 merged into the M&P Smith has come up with a winner.
