This is from the VCDL group. For more info visit:

The list of reciprocal states put out in the last alert was culled off the Virginia State Police web site. However, it turns out that their list is incomplete. It does not show South Dakota, Idaho, or Indiana!

Here is the corrected list of states that honor Virginia CHPs:

Alaska
Arizona
Arkansas
Florida
Idaho
Indiana
Kentucky
Louisiana
Michigan
Missouri
Montana
New Mexico
North Carolina
Ohio
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
South Dakota
Tennessee
Texas
Utah
Vermont (no permit required)
West Virginia

Also Rich Cao wanted me to mention that a non-resident New Hampshire CHP is cheap and easy to get if you have a Virginia CHP and covers states in the South that are not covered by your Virginia CHP (Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi).

Here is a link to get a NH CHP application:

Virginia now appears as a reciprocal state with South Carolina on the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) web site:
