A day or two ago I saw a pretty good theory and analysis of the impact the Supreme Court ruling on the Heller case may have on the presidential election. The author suggested the ruling may in fact favor Obama. The reasoning was that when Obama is questioned on future gun control initiatives he can now simply make make non-committed statements, and merely reference to the rulings affirmation of the individual right to own guns. The author further suggested this will likely appease anyone who is only mildly supporting or opposing gun control (which is probably a significant majority of voters), and thus make Obama more appealing. It also leaves gun control opponents in a weakened position to attack him, though his voting record speaks volumes on the subject. Frankly I thought this was pretty sound analysis, even though I don't like the implications for the election. Thoughts anyone?
